Amazing Glass Buildings in the World

National Grand Theater of China

One of China’s greatest architectural works of the last decade, the National Grand Theater of China is a massive dome of glass and titanium.  Located in Beijing, it is a multi-purpose glass building designed by French architect Paul Andreu. Built in 2007 and it is made of titanium and glass, it has too been called ‘The Giant Egg’, it houses an opera house and also concert hall.

The building houses an opera house, concert hall and theatre hall which can together seat more than 5000 guests.

 

Dancing House, Prague

It was built in 1996, it is located in Prague just near the Vltava River, its shape resembles a pair of dancers. It is designed by architects named by Vlado Milunic and also Frank Gehry. It was designed by the Croatian-Czech architect Vlado Milunic in cooperation with Canadian-American architect Frank Gehry on a vacant riverfront plot.

 It was regarded as very controversial several years ago, but on the other hand it is one of the most acclaimed modern buildings in Prague: it was awarded the Design of the year 1996 award from the American Time magazine.

 

30 St Mary Axe London (the Gherkin)

It is the tallest structure in London’s financial district. Architecture firm, Foster and Partners, designed the Gherkin to maximize the use of natural light. Most of the building is covered with thick glass panels, which enhances the use of natural light and temperature. it has 41 floors.

It is a commercial skyscraper in London's primary financial district, the City of London. It was completed in December 2003 and opened in April 2004

 

Kanagawa Institute of Technology Workshop, Japan

It’s an amazing studio + workspace where students of the Kanagawa Institute of Technology get to spend their days designing. The floor-to-ceiling glass makes the building appear weightless and elegant, and the open plan preserves the building’s sense of transparency as the viewer’s eye can shoot directly across the uninterrupted space.

The glass building was designed by Junya Ishigami and Associates. the building is framed by a row of cherry blossom trees that reflect onto its glass façade.

 

The Botanical Garden of Curitiba, Brazil

The Botanical Garden of Curitiba also known as the “Jardim Botânico Fanchette Rischbieter” – is in the Jardim Botânico district in the city of Curitiba, the capital of the state of Paraná, the biggest city of southern Brazil. The Botanical Garden was opened in 1991.

 It is the major tourist attraction and landmark of the city, and it houses part of the campus of the Federal University of Paraná. It is the tourist attraction and its seminal part as various and many species of plants, it has spanning over 450 square meters. it was the most voted place in an online election to choose the "Seven Wonders of Brazil".

Basque Health Department Headquarters, Bilbao

The 13-storey headquarters of the Basque Health Department is one of the iconic buildings in Spain. It was designed by Coll-Barreu Arquitectos. The building concentrates services and communications in a vertical spine attached to the longest party hedge and generates seven open floors assigned for offices. Above this, there are two floors for local representative and institutional use.

The double façade solves not only urban requirements but also those concerning energetic, fire-resistant and acoustic insulation from outside. The folded façade generates multiple visual from inside to the streets bellow, and also from the highest floors to the landscape that surrounds the city, a highly effective mechanism for the incorporation of urban vitalism inside the building. 

 

The Aldar Headquarters, Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.

The Aldar Headquarters, designed by MZ Architects, is located at Raha Beach in Abu Dhabi and is a completely circular office building. The Aldar headquarters building is the first circular building of its kind in the Middle East. The shape of this building is achieved through the use of structural diagrid, a diagonal grid of steel.

The Aldar HQ building is a 121m tall, 23 storey commercial building. The groundbreaking building represents a fusion of tradition and modernity, with the striking circular shape symbolizing unity and stability. This steel diagrid is the first of its nature in the UAE.  The project was developed in line with the US Green Building Council LEED rating system.

 

Louvre Pyramid, Paris

The Louvre Pyramid is a large glass and metal pyramid designed by Chinese-American architect I.M. Pei, surrounded by three smaller pyramids.

The Louvre Pyramid was built as part of a project known as the 'Grand Louvre', first proposed in 1981 by the French president François Mitterrand, to expand and modernize the Louvre Museum. For the entrance to the subterranean level, Architect Pei wanted to avoid it looking like a mere subway station and he needed the right kind of building to draw visitors to the museum's entrance.

 

Sports and Leisure Center in Saint-Cloud, France

The Sports and Leisure Center, located in Saint-Cloud France, is an impressive glass building which blends bold colors and a modern cubism design The three-story fun palace designed by Paris-based KOZ Architects happens to be, well, colorful in the extreme. But it is the load-bearing concrete panel system that allows the building to read as a rainbow of vibrating color fields.

The goals of the project were to provide large, wide-open spaces; to separate the adolescent sports area from the children’s play area; and to fit both programs on a tight lot.
